Why We Added a Drone to the Kit
For years we resisted carrying a drone. Too bulky, too fragile, too much hassle at security. The Antigravity A1 changed that calculation entirely. It's compact enough to toss in a side pocket and capable enough to get shots we simply couldn't get any other way.
What Makes the A1 Different
The A1 is built from the ground up for travelers who need something that actually fits into a travel bag without dominating it. Foldable arms, a compact body, and a carrying case that's smaller than most paperback books.
Flight time lands in the 25–30 minute range on a full charge — enough for meaningful shots without constantly swapping batteries. We carry two batteries on longer days.
Camera quality delivers clean, stabilized footage that holds up well in standard daylight conditions. The 3-axis gimbal does real work, keeping footage smooth even in moderate wind.
Range extends far enough that you'll run into local drone regulations before you hit the hardware limits, which is the right order of priorities for a travel drone.
What It's Like to Travel With
The A1 clears most airport security without drama. We've taken it through Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America without a single issue. The battery separates easily, which is the main thing security cares about.
Setup from bag to airborne takes under two minutes once you're familiar with it. The companion app connects quickly over Wi-Fi and gives a live view on your phone.
Where we use it most:
- →Coastal cliffs and beaches where perspective is everything
- →City skylines at golden hour
- →Hiking trails where the landscape deserves a wider view
- →Boat trips and waterways
What to Know Before You Fly
Always check local regulations before launching — many tourist areas, national parks, and city centers have restrictions. Apps like DJI Fly (works as a general reference) and local aviation authority sites are the quickest way to check.
Wind is the main limitation. The A1 handles light to moderate wind well, but above 25 mph you'll feel it in the footage and the aircraft gets cautious, which is correct behavior.
Battery and Charging
USB-C charging means one cable handles the drone and everything else in the bag. A full charge takes around 60–90 minutes. The batteries are compact enough that carrying two extras adds almost no weight penalty.
The Shot You Can't Get Otherwise
The honest reason to carry a drone is the angle. There are shots — a coastal path curving around a headland, a village tucked into a hillside, two people small against an enormous landscape — that simply don't exist from ground level. The A1 makes those shots accessible without requiring a production crew.
Bottom line: If you've been on the fence about adding a drone to your travel kit, the A1 makes the strongest case we've seen for actually doing it. It stays out of the way until you need it, then delivers.
